It is sad but true. School Board member Pat Hynes is attacking Grevey’s due to their opposition to the meals tax. In doing so, they are exercising their right to free speech and reflecting the impact the meals tax would have on their business. Hynes, on the other hand, is acting inappropriately.
If her efforts in denigrating Grevey’s are successful, it may be forced to close. That would, of course, result in local job losses as well as lost business for local restaurant suppliers.
It is unfortunate that FCPS cannot spend responsibly. Since they cannot do this, the solution to the “budget crisis” is not the meals tax but rather a comprehensive review of spending and making necessary and appropriate cuts. Instead of doing so, Ms. Hynes seems to think that putting people out of business will somehow benefit the schools. She is wrong.
As a result, it stands to reason that the rational thing to do is to vote NO on the meals tax!
